T P ("Pat") Guerin Managing Director

T. P. (“Pat”) GUERIN, Managing Director, is a seasoned executive with over 35 years of financial and general management experience in banking, construction, project and transactional finance, real estate, transportation and waste management.

Pat started his career as a banker; specializing in construction and real estate financing and the development of international markets. He held senior positions with Citibank, Bank of America and BAII with international postings in Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea. Notable highlights of Pat’s 25 year banking career include:

  • A six year stint, including positions as Chief Credit Officer and CEO, of BAII Banking Corp, a $ 1 billion NY based merchant bank. Key responsibilities included the recovery of $100 million in the Drexel bankruptcy and, subsequently, orderly disposition of the entire portfolio when the French parent corporation chose to exit the US market.
  • Turnaround of Bank of America’s New York based construction finance unit, entailing active management of a $400 million portfolio of troubled credits which included Fischbach Corp., the Foley Companies, Comstock Engineering, D’Appolonia Construction, and others.
  • Organization, staffing and supervision of multiple Asian branch lending operations for Citibank, including, as CEO, starting up and operating a de novo joint venture merchant bank in Malaysia.

Since moving to the consulting arena in 1991, Pat has provided workout/turnaround assistance (including 3 CEO assignments), strategic support and start up expertise to a varied client base of middle market companies with particular emphasis upon, and success at, guiding closely held organizations and family held investment trusts out of distressed situations. Significant consulting assignments include:

  • Evaluation and workout of distressed assets in a privately held portfolio composed of 3 dozen diverse operating entities representing over $140 million of invested cash (plus equal contingent exposures); actively managed disposition of approximately $50 million portion of the portfolio.
  • Preparing financial and operational evaluations and, subsequently, assuming interim management control of a troubled privately owned municipal waste facility. As CEO, Pat managed the sale of the operating assets, satisfaction of the secured debt and liquidation of the investment while avoiding a public bankruptcy process.
  • Providing business viability assessment and financial planning support to a large civil contractor facing defaulted debt covenants and critical liquidity pressures.
  • Evaluation and development of a remedial business strategy for the $1 billion petroleum segment (from crude acquisition and refining to sales and distribution) of a troubled mid-west co-operative organization.
  • Advising Parsons Brinkerhoff, the NY based global engineering, program and construction management company, on matters relating to Vietnam’s infrastructure development and finance;
  • Establishing and implementing an international development strategy for a leading family owned US trucking services firm; evaluated and selected country and planned locations, initial staffing and marketing activities for successful EU start-up and subsequent entry into Mexico.

Additional consulting assignments have included both financial and strategic advisory roles and interim management in construction, engineering, automotive services and supply, and alcoholic beverage manufacture and distribution.

A native of Oregon, Pat is a liberal arts graduate of Hamilton College, with an MBA specializing in international trade and finance from the University of Oregon. Languages include Chinese (Mandarin), German and some Japanese. He is a speaker and writer on a variety of topics dealing with credit and the international construction industry.
